How to Watch IPTV on Chromecast & Google TV
"Chromecast" covers two different devices, and the IPTV answer differs for each: the classic cast-only dongle, and Chromecast with Google TV, which runs full Android TV.
Classic Chromecast (no remote): cast from Chrome
- Open your playlist in a web IPTV player in Chrome on your laptop or Android phone.
- Click Chrome's ⋮ menu → Cast, pick your Chromecast, and choose "Cast tab".
- The tab — video and audio — appears on the TV. Keep the laptop/phone on while you watch.
Tab-casting re-encodes the video, so expect good-but-not-perfect quality. For long sessions, casting from a plugged-in laptop beats a phone on battery.
Chromecast with Google TV: use Android apps
This model runs Android TV, so the normal app route applies: TiviMate, Televizo, OTT Navigator and Smarters all install from the Play Store, and it's genuinely one of the best cheap IPTV devices as a result. There's no built-in web browser, so the browser route needs either casting (as above) or sideloading a TV browser.
Which route should you use?
Own a Google TV model? Install a native app — it's the better daily experience. Classic dongle, or just want tonight's game on the TV without installing anything? Cast the browser tab and you're done in a minute.
